Alternative local leisure facilities for Clapham customers
Clapham Leisure Centre is due to close at the end of 2008, so that a new leisure centre, with much improved facilities can be built on the same site. The council has reviewed the availability of alternative local leisure facilities in the area so that Clapham customers can continue to take part in leisure activities whilst the new centre is being built.
All school swimming programmes will continue at a number of local pools at the start of the new school year. General leisure activities such as swimming, exercise classes and healthy living programmes will be provided at other leisure centres nearby – such as Brixton and Ferndale. You can read more about these in the latest newsletter.
Future Clapham
The planning application for the Future Clapham project was expected in the early summer. Although the national credit crunch is causing major disruptions to regeneration projects across the country, we are working with the developer Cathedral, to overcome the impact of this. This has caused a slight delay to the programme but will not affect the overall delivery of the new services. The new leisure centre due to open in late spring 2010 and the new library alongside the customer centre is due to open in autumn 2010.
